Lazaris Argyrou was born in 1938 in the village of Agrokipia and he is the eldest son of a rural family of nine children. As soon as he finished his primary education he began his struggle for living, working at his father farm, as a building mason and as a miner. He started drawing and painting at an early age.

 

Lazaris bought his first watercolour paints and paper in 1960. Between 1962 and 1964 he followed a correspondence course. Since 1968 he has been actively involved in sculpture and as from 1995 he regularly attends a studio in Nicosia, Cyprus and draws the nude. Recently, since 2000 he has been actively involved in mosaic work. As from 1967 to 2002, Lazaris attended at over 25 solo and group painting exhibitions, both in Cyprus and overseas.
