Charalambos Christodoulou
was born in Cyprus in 1937. He started carving as a hobby in 1981,
fascinated and intrigued by his ability to release the unforeseen
forms that lay dormant in stone. In time, sculpting captured all his
interests and turned out to be a passionate way of expressing
himself. He experienced with a variety of materials: marble,
limestone, sandstone, granite, jasper, wood, terracotta in his quest
for new challenges. Quite often, the actual shape of the material is
it a river stone or a piece from a cypress tree trunk, leads the
artist to the representation as if it dictates to him how to reveal
the shape hidden inside. The human figure dominates his world, the
female acquiring a leading role. It is motherhood that appeals to
him most: sometimes female figures imbued with a powerful sensual
quality, other times sturdy forms that evoke the force of the earth. Charalambos Christodoulou had one solo exhibition in 1990. He also
participated in several group exhibitions, latest of which in 2009.
