The
only female in a family of eight children, Amalia found self- expression
through art at an early age. As she grew, she developed her
self-expression in many areas, playing several musical instruments,
writing poetry, becoming a life-long scholar of the ancient world as
well as a counselling psychotherapist specializing in methods of
psychotherapy involving visual expression/imagery, which had by this
time become her own dominant form of artistic expression. At an exhibit,
however, Amalia likes to create an expressive environment by combining
sound and even movement with her visual works whenever possible,
simultaneously symbolizing and concretizing the notion of
ever-encircling, ever-evolving, ever-expanding creation.
A born-and-bred New Yorker, Amalia now divides her time between Nicosia
and Northern California. She is only just beginning to show her work in
Cyprus. She works largely in inks, soft pastels, and acrylics, but also
indulges in acrylics and oils. She also likes to incorporate
3-dimensional objects (e.g. tree branches) into her works and use
non-traditional methods (e.g. transferring paint onto canvas via the net
of an onion bag) of medium application.
